I constantly strive to be rigorous with words. I remind myself to handle language with honesty toward facts, without deception, eliminating ornamental phrases as much as possible to reveal the essence.
Design itself does not inherently require verbal explanation. Yet, when considering the act of viewing design as an exhibit in an exhibition, I strongly felt the necessity for verbal description. As a record of the verbalization of thought, documenting the process of thinking that led to its realization. As a method for grasping phenomena from a bird’s-eye view. Text accumulates the time spent thinking, and as a result, the timeline leading to the design emerges.
While explanatory texts in exhibitions are typically displayed on walls or other surfaces within the venue, I sought a method that would allow greater focus on the text itself. Consequently, I decided to create a single book containing the text. A book fits in the hand; the reader can move to any preferred location and receive the words in optimal conditions. This book becomes a component of the installation artwork itself. As a symbol of the endless accumulation of thought, it forms the core of the exhibition plan, fulfilling two functions: explanatory text and artwork. A proposal for communication design within the exhibition.
